The FIFTH semester at TIET!!!

Another semester another set of new subjects and with that another set of resolutions of 5,6,7,8,9,10 pointers…. And a fate that everyone knows…
Well this section of my blog is dedicated to all those souls of the TIET who have taken up the tough task to teach us, The Comp Sc. branch, in the 5th semester…. And with due respect and regards I’ll try to “give a brief account” of every ‘only one of its kind’ creature. Okay six subjects… I’ll take one by one…

  • Object Oriented Programming of 4.0 credits…. (I mention the full name and the credits so that I might not forget them in the next interview ;) ) … The teacher Mr. Bhalla or the ‘laash’ as we call him. Well, this lad is always punctual in the class, provided he comes. From the time he enters the class till he takes a leave , you are living in a senseless world, where you are free to do anything, ranging from polishing your writing and sketching skills, till trying hard to hear what he says….. The best thing about him is that his lecture duration is generally what the students always want…

  • Theory of Computation of 3.5 credits…. Mr. Ajay Kumar The lecturer at TIET. He has been taught us in the training also, and from the that time onwards I has known that he is a good and a hard-work teaches, keep aparts the ‘bihari’ accents… All in the alls an intelligents teacher..

  • Computer Networks of 3.5 credits… Aww… remember the mangalsutra ma’am of my first post??? Miss Ass hima??? How I love to sleep in her class, and how I hate the smile she gives me when she finds me playing ‘hide and seek’ in dream world of my own and turns me out of the class without any credits for the 30 mins i’ve spent in the class. Iss Subject me kunda pakka.

  • Database Management Systems of 4.0 credits… Mr.Prateek Bhatia... the man of dynamism… you can see the sweat dripping down his face when he ends the lecture… The only lecture that I attend with whole hearted enthusiasm…

  • Software Engineering of 4.5 credits… Ms Inderveer Channa.. Nothing official about her, just any ordinary teacher. Comes in, takes attendance, teaches, gives recurrsive ‘dhamki’ about the difficulty in the subject and goes out ….

  • Microprocessors of 4.5 credits???… Subject me kya hai ye abhi takk nahi pata chala… Teacher kaun hai???… ye bhi nahi pata chala… As written in time-table, it had to be Yugnanda “ma’am”.. but at the moment some young gal is taking our………………….. yea.. she’s taking our ______ kya vo padhati hai, kya hum padhte hai.. aur kya bheje me jata hai… ITS ALL A “?”.. and the biggest problem is that she’s not even worth looking at for a whole one hour….

Well, that was all about it… this was more of a formal post, just to keep memories updated. The extract of the speech, the one I mentioned in my last to last post would be coming up when I start my MBA classes next week….. Till then…. Keep clicking guys….

The Interview... Screwed it all...

Hi Blog… must not be expecting me sooo soon… hmm had to be here.. Well I’m not gonna write what I spoke in my speech… but rather I’ll tell u how the interviewers screwed me…. Vaise interviews are all about screwing up the innocent chaps.. Sorry.. Innocent people… (No slang to be used now... The reason u’ll get to know soon)

Okay this was an interview for the admission to the BE-MBA course of the TIET… Though we are all selected because the seats are 80 and the students who applied just 20.. Still it’d a matter of shame if I’d be ranked 20 :( (Fingers crossed)

Yesterday was an aptitude test… Mittran nu shaunk tukke maaran da.. 100% attempt :D
The day today started with a GD on “Can business and ethics go together?”
Here was my first interaction with the interviewers... when one of them asked, “Is the topic okay or does it need to be changed” very confidently I admitted “Sir, if others agree, it can be changed.”
Won’t say anything else about the GD, for it went just average… and Miss Waraich being the shining star…
Then came the hour of ordeal
There was a panel of four people (two professors of the Thapar, Deputy Director of iit delhi, and fourth one I don’t know who) to take the hell outaa me, Oops, its out of me….
I’ll try to draw the exact picture, portraying the exact sequence of events and the exact words used... As far as I can… here you go…

The Interview:

Me: May I come in sir… (Not heard)…. Sir may I come in?????
Interviewer (In): just a moment… yes come in…
Me: (after giving sort nod, as if wishing them… hello)
In: So Deepinder…. Deepinder Singh….. Tell me something about yourself...
Me: Well, Sir I’m simple guy……
In: (looking straight into me) guy??? What does guy mean???
Me: sorry sir, it’s a slang word, ought not be used over here, but since I used it I’m sorry for that…
In: Have u ever seen the meaning of the word guy in the English dictionary??
Me: I’m sorry sir, I haven’t...

In: (talking among themselves) Actually he uses the word 'guy' because George Bush uses it.. (and they shared a laugh over my sweating face)
I suggest you for the future not to use these words in such formal places… and btw, what’s the opposite of guy.
Me: (amusingly) Sir it’s a gal….
In: Hmm… So what else..
Me: I’m a simple g…….
In: But you don’t look to be simple….
Me: (amazed, astonished, threatened….) Sir I just try to make myself presentable enough…
In: okay… tell something else..
Me: I come from a medical background, My Mom, dad and sister..
In: So how did u opt for engg.
Me: Sir, I had no interest in bio, and I and my mother always wanted me to be engineer.
In: these days there is more use of Mom and dad and so on... why???

Me: Sir, we are living in an internet world, and ppl are into these chatting and stuffs.. Where the use of shorthand is too much...
In: okay why do u think that you are doing MBA…
Me: (I thought that I had my chance) Sir, its not mandatory for an engineer to do MBA, but still it important because adds to you managerial skills, for example, you make a mobile, and engg. Would have only the technical knowledge, on the other hand a business manager would have only the knowledge of how to market the product, but if u are a techno manager, then u are in a situation to increase the marketing but having the know-how of the product as you sell them…
In: what all subjects did you study in your last semester and what all credits…
Me: umm.. umm.. umm… Operating Systems 4.5 credits, Numerical Analysis and design 4.5 credits, material Science and engg. 4.5 credits… System management (??) 3.5 credits… umm…Environmental Studies 3 credits…. Sir I’ve named 6 (please count again guys) and yes Computer Design 3.5 credits….
In: there is no subject like Comp Design.. its comp Architecture… :
Me: Oh yes sir, sorry..
In: This shows ur seriousness abt ur studies…
Me: (blank)
In: These days you see the companies advertising too much, do you think that its good for them??
Me: Well, the advertisement is very imp, for a company as it lets the people know abt the new products in the market..
In: But is too much required??
Me: Well too much of it I guess doesn’t has any harm, but it neither helps them.. Still advertisement is required… (At this moment I was thinking abt adsense adds on my blog )
In: What do u say abt the advertisements eg. For a bike, wont u look for the features rather than just blindly seeing the add...
Me: (I ‘thought’ again that I had my chance again) actually it’s all a matter of the image one haves in mind about a product. For example, let on one hand MS Dhoni endorse the bike, and on other hand Shah Rukh does it, now the image of shah rukh is larger than Dhoni (Sorry cudnt think of anybody else) for a person… take another example... The navratan teil, earlier it was endorsed by Govinda with a smaller image, now amitabh does it.. With the change in the person. The image of the product has become larger in your minds, so this provokes a person to try the product…
In: Do u think that the companies are imposing the products on the consumers..
Me: No ma’am these days consumer is the king…. A company produces what the consumer wants..
In: (I think I said sumthing abt sales and marketing before, I don’t remember) Whats the difference b/w sales and marketing..
Me: umm… umm…. Sir Sales is.. umm…
In: Do u know or are u just trying to make out...
Me: sir just trying to make out..
In: whats ur CGPA??
Me: Sir, 7.99
In: What’s GDP.
Me: Sir Gross……… umm..
In: What’s the GDP of India..??
Me: Sir don’t know…
In: You don’t know what’s GDP??
Me: I’m sorry Sir…I have not much of knowledge I this field…
In: Okay… You can go..
Me: (confused) Sir May I leave???

And as they say…. Rest is history…….

Five Minutes of 'Fame'

Hmm. The training finally ended on Saturday, but with a sad note… A saga of events... had to part with the new frnds, ek ladki jo pasand ai thi vo bina bat kiye ja rahi thi and my rival won again, project dekh k ma’am said that she expected something better from us… Whatever, that’s life…
But the day today… the registration day… :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)
I’m not happy coz I was officially being promoted to a new semester. The reason is something else… I’ll start off with the yesterday… ie. The Sunday 16th July.
As said by the Dean Acads, I had to deliver a speech at the orientation program for the first year on 17th, the Monday.
(I always “longed” to get a chance to take part in debates in the school times)
I woke up at around 12 p.m.(Sunday) in the afternoon and made out plans like I’ll be completing the draft of the speech by 6 p.m. then wud start with its cramming up and so on… hmm.. the speech was made till 6pm.. but jab tak Orkut zindabad.. aage k sare plans choupat.. I was orkutting till 8.. Still I think I had enugh time… so I started.. I think I welcomed the students(the first line of speech) around 15-20 times in this undertaking… and raat 1 baje tak I was “unable” to speak out the whole of speech without looking into the paper… Literally speaking… meri “fatti hui thi”!!!
And the worst part was that I didn’t know at what time was the program where I had to face the mob.
Anyways, today I reached college at 8, and I came to know that the program was at 11.
To shorten the blog, I’ll directly take a leap into the auditorium…
My First Fear The students were accompanied by their parents and the near and dear ones..
My Second fear.. I was made to sit on the stage with Mrs. Shanatakumari on my right and Mrs. Alpana Aggarwal on my left..
My Greatest Fear… FATTI PADI THI!!!
After the mic heard the voices of The Dean Acads, Dean Student Affairs, S.Das (the most interesting speaker, the head of the “phyotech department” hu told us “phot is phyotech”) and some more.. and finally to Mrs Seema bawa.. Then to DEEPINDER SINGH KALRA!!!
Stepped forward… tick tock tick tock… dhak dhak dhak dhak… dayen deekha.. bayen deekha… koi dekhne layak ladki nahi dikhi.. fir bass meri mundi upar neeche left right.. looking into nothing but darkness, I just vomited all I had to speak completing the five minutes speech in three minutes…
The best part… there was no 'biz biz' for a change as I spoke… ;)
I came back and sat down… looking towards the audience for a reaction.. I could see none, except for the applause that still echoes in my ears
(I wondered if those were hallucinations)
The orientation ended…
The moment of my life… Dean Sir approaches me and says thank u.. well done.. I asked ‘Sir theek than na??’ sir says… “arey bohat badiya tha”
Okay hunn tak mittar famous ho chukka si…
As I moved out of the audi, I could see some eyes falling on me (or maybe I felt that), whatever I just rushed out.. Then, some more appreciation… some parents approached me, introduced themselves and their wards to me, and asked some questions abt the college and studies… Arey ek to bohat hi mast tha… Father pooch rahe they ki kya ise abhi PC leker dena chahiye… I said yes. Harshit said maybe.. And the son was reacting like. “Papa te aavein hi kahi jande ne, hor te chahida nahi ki PC, I’m a big man now” ( that’s what his actions said)
And the most precious one.. “Beeta have u been taking part in debates and everything before???”
I think I could…. I wish I would…..

P.S. taking into consideration the length of the blog, I’d post some extract of the speech in my next blog!!!

Whats new at TIET!!!

Hi Guys…. Anybody waiting for me??? No :( okay no problems, I had to be here.. After all mere blog ka sawal hai yarrr…
Wel this section of my blog is for the Thaparians who are away from their college and are very curious to know about what’s happening at The Thapar Institute of Engg. And Technology…
Actually I was being overloaded over with questions from my friends, who are away to their homelands..
Every time the same Question.. “ Aur suna college me naya kya hai ???”Soo here I am with all the ‘nayain the college that I could get an eye on… might miss somethings. Sorry for those…

  • First and the foremost… The new Director of the TIET.. Dr. Sxy Saxena, has taken a leave from the instt. and a young lad(??) in his forties, Dr.Abhijeet Mujherjee has taken over his responsibilities.. Dr. Mukherjee was previously a Professor IIT Mumbai ….

  • A long cherished derire seems to be fulfilled when Thaparians are looking at some kinda Shoping Complex in the grounds besides the Polytechnic.. Abhi tak koi dukanein khuli to nahi, but lets look forward to the best (I hope ki koi xtra classes na laga dein un shops me)

  • Might sound a bit strange, but another construction.. the partitioning of the BIG ONES OF THE F-Block… yup.. the rooms F-108 and F-101 are being split into a baap and a bacha combi..(maa kaun ye abhi pata nahi) The baap is being developed into a step type format(as of the digital classrooms) and the bacha, as said by the working bhaiyas, is being done into a computer lab kinda thing…

  • Now something for the day scholars… the expansion of the Scooter Stand…. Finally we hope less of chaos at the otherwise “nonu sa” scooter stand

  • If you make an entry during the night hours in the college, you might have a gala welcome as there are some stylish street lights being installed all the way from the main gate till the campus…

  • And yea... I missed out one of the most important things… The Toilets of the C- Blocks are being renovated to as of the B-Block… ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ;)

  • For the computer Science Studs... Four new Staff members… So I’ll just wish you a Good Luck… Let their teaching be a surprise for u… :)

  • Arrey yar ek baat to bhool hi gaya... the gals would be very happy to know ki unke favorite "BHIM BHAIYA" is Back at the famous Bhim ki Hatti

Ummm.. I think that’s all for now… so see u guys at the registration ceremony on 17th, which acc. To the Dean Acads has been made simple this time..
And for those going in for BE-MBA… the test is on 18th at 5 pm & GD on 19th after 2 pm. The MBA classes will start a week later

ciao...

Mai Mr.Fatima Banna Chahata Hu!!!

Well Well Well... Hi again... :) Am back guys... but sorry no philosophical stuff this time... This time the blog is gonna be, what I call a selfish stuff... ahh not that selfish, just I wanted to pen down some of my old memories... the memories of my school days...
So, this was the last day of my school, Our Lady of Fatima, my Farewell Day... As the trend goes, the guys had to wear suits and the gals sarees.. Talking abt the guys, we were all the more excited to see our classmate grls in sarrees, who at didn't even know how to handle their dupatta... About me, the suit was well decided after a lot of confusions, and I was ready. As the law of Deepinder's punctuality goes, I was the first of my batch-mates to reach there. Wearing a Dark Blue Suit with Maroon tie and Maroon Turban, on My Cream Bajaj Chetak, 1984 model. After an hour or so, when all were there, the proceedings started. Ahh.. the start u all know... Lighting the lamps(bechara lamp pata nahi kitni bar jaga aur bujha hoga) and then pledge by the house captains. And our Hon'ble Head Boy and Head Gal. Then the fuction started... The first round was the modeling round.. kya kuch socha tha maine.. ki ladke ladki ka pair banayenge, I'd be paired with ..........(?????) and hum log masti se modeling karenge... but the things were totally different.. A group of 20 guys and 20 gals were asked to stand in two lines(one for each), perpendicular to each other.. as if for a march past... then then each line asked to move alternatively on a ghatiya sa music...and the judges were made to sit right in front of the grls' march( u can guess why) chalo chal liye.... The next round was that of Dance and question round(formality sake) There were some interesting games, nice skits and some usual westran dances and bla bla dances b/w the rounds...and as usual, the dramatics ruled till the end..
Okay now comes the punch of the endeavour.. My dance round... some expectations that I'd be selected for the round, and I was. The round in total had 40 studs in number

I'll directly jump over to my number.
The song- Chaiya Chaiya - Dil Se
The Performer- Deepinder Singh Kalra
What what can u expect.... I've displayed some pics to help you out....

As the song started, my coat was off..... round and round and round whirling over my head.... soch raha tha ki ladkiyon ki taraf fenku ke ladko ki taraf... fir finally man me pata nahi kya aya and maine ladko ki taraf fenka :(.. had it been today, it'd been grls, u see i was a shy guy :).. Then Shah Rukh all over my brains... and ahh... I jumped.. like Shah Rukh??? hmm.. yea.. farak itna tha ki usne train me cotton k upar chalang lagai thi aur maine apne school me concrete k upar... sabb taraf cheekhe sunai de rahi thi.. I never heard if those were in my favour or if the voices asked me to just stop it... Whatever, carried on.... aage pichey upar nichey dayen baye... (not PT that was my dance).. In the end.. all I was left with some swollen knees, and aching body :(

The result ......
there u see below...

Yea I was Mr. Fatima....... Shocked??? Everyone in the crowd was.....
